It was another impressive turnout of croquet talent in this year’s Golf Croquet State Open Doubles tournament at Forrest Park on 5/6 April.
As usual, the club rallied its volunteers to get the courts ready and keep the players well fed and hydrated over the two days of play – so it’s a huge thank you to all those ‘unsung hero’s’ who keep croquet clubs functioning – and to the players competing from city and country clubs, tournament and venue managers, referees, club members and spectators who added to the atmosphere.
Winners were Joyce Carbone from Gosnells, partnering with Marty Clarke from Pinjarra, winning nine games out of ten.
Runners up were Gary Phipps from Moorabinda and Robyn Dart from Busselton, who were last year’s winners, also winning nine games out of ten, but losing their one game to Marty and Joyce.
Third, a new partnership duo of Wendy Collins and Anthony Nelson from Dunsborough.
Forrest Park’s Brett and Janine McHardy finished fourth, and other Forrest Park players (of which there were several) finished in fine form. There were eleven teams in total.
